Academic Camps for Rising 7th & 8th Graders

Rising 7th and 8th grad students are invited to attend for Credit Academic programs. Students will earn Notre Dame academic credit upon successful completion of the class. Please note that Notre Dame academic summer classes are demanding and there is no guarantee each student will successfully complete the course.

  • Character Design & Comic Illustration

    Dates: Monday, July 8 - Friday, July 26
    Time: 12:45 – 4:45 p.m.
    Fee: $720 Credits: 2.5 Students: 9-12th Grade  
    Pre-Requisites: None

    Field Trip permission required

    Student Advantage: 
    Students will be able to complete a for credit class in art during the summer session. Academic preparedness and scheduling flexibility is the key advantage to this summer offering.

    Course Description:
    2.5 credits (60 hours)
    Students will explore the art of designing their own characters through 2D and 3D media while experimenting with the basics of drawing and sculpture. Activities will include learning the foundation of basic drawing techniques, illustrating character profiles, comic illustration and sculpting character maquettes. This class may include an off campus field trip.
  • Freshman Integrated Technology & Foundations of Writing

    Dates:   Monday, July 8 - Friday, July 26
    Time:    12:45 - 4:45 p.m.

    Student Advantage:
     All freshmen are required to take Integrated Technology and Foundations of Writing. By taking the course over the summer students will have both the computer skills and academic writing skills needed to be successful at Notre Dame before the fall semester begins. Academic preparedness and scheduling flexibility is the key advantage to this summer offering.

    Course Description:
     2.5 credits (60 hours) This is a required course for all freshmen. Students obtain a basic understanding of technology for learning. This includes word processing, use of spreadsheets, presentation software, research databases and the operation of Notre Dame’s LAN. Students also study and practice the basics of good writing. Teachers will review grammatical structures, the development of thesis statements and essay writing for a variety of purposes.
  • Summer Film Experience

    Dates: Monday, July 29 - Friday, August 2
    Time: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
    Fee: $360
    Credit: 1.25
    Students: Grade 9-12
    Pre-Requisites:  None

    Student Advantage:
     Students will be able to complete a for credit class in film studies and production during the summer session. This course does not preclude students from taking film production or film studies courses during the traditional school year.

    Course Description: 1.25 credits (30 hours) Summer Film Experience is a course that allows students to experience a blend of the Film Studies and Film Production courses offered during the year. Students will learn basic filmmaking terminology and film analysis techniques, as well as gain exposure to the digital filmmaking process. This course will be tailored to accommodate different levels of previous experience and is recommended for students who have never taken a film class, or for students who have taken several film classes. (Movies with a PG-13 rating will be included in screening list.)
